Flat Roofing Preston: EPDM Rubber, GRP Fibreglass and Felt
Our flat roofing systems
| System | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| EPDM rubber | A single sheet of rubber membrane, with few or no joints | Extensions, garages and dormers |
| GRP fibreglass | A layered fibreglass finish, laid in place to form a jointless surface | Extensions, dormers and roofs that need a hard-wearing finish |
| Built-up felt | Layers of bituminous felt bonded to the deck | A traditional, cost-effective choice |
We'll explain which suits your roof and budget when we quote. Our new flat roofs come with 20+ year guarantees.
Signs your flat roof needs attention
- Water ponding on the roof after rain.
- Splits, cracks or blisters in the covering.
- Failed joints or edges lifting.
- Damp patches on the ceiling below.
- A soft or spongy deck when walked on.
Falls, drainage and detailing
A flat roof isn't truly flat. It needs a fall so water runs to the gutter or outlet instead of sitting on the roof. Ponding water is one of the main reasons flat roofs fail early. We design every flat roof with proper falls, drainage and edge details, and finish the joins to walls with lead flashing where it's needed.
Repair or replace?
If the deck is sound and the damage is in one area, a repair may be enough. If the covering is failing all over, the deck is soft, or the roof has been patched many times, a new flat roof is better value. We'll tell you honestly which you need. The Planning Portal says that in most situations, re-roofing needs building regulations approval, and that includes flat roofs.

Frequently asked questions
Which is best: EPDM, GRP or felt?
All three work well when fitted properly. The right one depends on the roof, how it's used and your budget. We'll explain the options.
Why does water sit on my flat roof?
Usually because the roof doesn't have enough fall, or the deck has sagged. A new roof laid to proper falls fixes it.
Can you repair my flat roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes, if the deck is sound and the damage is in one area.
Do your flat roofs come with a guarantee?
Yes. Our new flat roofs come with 20+ year guarantees. Ask us for the details when we quote.
