Guttering Preston: New Gutters and Downpipes Fitted
When it's time for new guttering
- Leaks at several joints, not just one.
- Cracked, split or brittle sections along the run.
- Brackets failing all the way round, so the gutter sags.
- Repeated repairs that keep failing.
- Gutters that overflow even when they're clear.
- A new roof, fascia or extension that needs guttering to match.
If it's only one section, a gutter repair may be all you need.
What's involved in fitting new guttering
- Look at the whole system: the gutters, downpipes, outlets and the fascia boards they're fixed to.
- Take down the old guttering and check the fascia behind it. Rotten or damaged fascias should be dealt with before new gutters go up.
- Fit new brackets at the right spacing, set to the right fall towards the outlets.
- Fit the new gutters, outlets and downpipes, with joints properly sealed.
- Clear up and take the old guttering away.
Getting the size and fall right
Guttering has to cope with the rain coming off the roof above it. A large or steep roof sends more water into the gutter than a small one, and a gutter that is too small, or set without enough fall, will overflow in heavy rain however clean it is. When we fit new guttering, we look at the roof it serves and where the downpipes go, so the system can carry the water away. For older homes, Historic England has advice on inspecting, maintaining and repairing rainwater systems.
Homes and commercial properties
We fit guttering to houses, extensions, garages and commercial properties. For larger roofs, see our commercial roofing page.
Older homes
On older homes, guttering is part of the building's character. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with your council before changing the style or material of the gutters. Like-for-like replacement is usually the right approach.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I need new guttering or a repair?
If the problem is in one place, a repair is usually enough. If the gutters are leaking or sagging all the way round, new guttering is often better value in the long run.
Do you replace downpipes as well?
Yes. We can replace gutters and downpipes together so the whole system works properly.
Can you fit guttering on a new extension?
Yes. We fit guttering on extensions, garages and new roofs.
What if my fascia boards are rotten?
Rotten fascias should be dealt with before new guttering is fitted, because the gutter brackets are fixed to them. We'll check them when we quote.
